Originally called Melbourne Lodge, the property was built by John Stracey who was the colony's first auctioneer. It became a private school for boys in 1831, and then became the home for the Honourable George Salier, his wife Harriet and their fourteen children. For a period of over 180 years, many notable families have resided here, and the 13-room hotel is now listed by the National Trust and forms part of the National Estate - thus becoming part of Australia's lasting heritage.Each of the rooms has a different look and feel.
